Symptom

Miele oven will not heat

Cold, or simply wrong. An oven that is out by a consistent amount and one that swings between are different problems, and only one of them is the sensor everybody blames.

  • From $95 diagnostic, credited to the repair
  • 59 cities and neighborhoods covered
  • OEM parts available on order
  • In writing the price, before anything is opened

Four ordinary causes

What this usually turns out to be

Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.

How it shows up

What people describe when they call

  • “The cavity never reaches temperature”
  • “Food browning on one side only”
  • “An oven consistently thirty degrees out”
Two blank control fascias one above the other in a tall built-in housing, brushed metal and dark glass

Two shortcuts

Narrow it down before anybody arrives

A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem, and the model number says which parts to bring. Either one shortens the visit; both together usually settle it.

In more detail

About Miele oven will not heat

The fastest diagnosis is the code

Put an oven thermometer on the middle shelf and watch it through a full preheat and twenty minutes beyond. Consistently low and steady is a different diagnosis from swinging, and knowing which halves the visit.

Cold, or simply wrong

They are different problems. An oven that never gets warm is an element, a relay or the supply. An oven that reaches a temperature and holds the wrong one is almost always the temperature sensor drifting, which is a cheap part. An oven that swings between too hot and too cool is a third thing again.

Measure before you decide

An oven thermometer on the middle shelf through a full preheat and twenty minutes past it tells us more than any description can. It is the single most useful thing you can do before booking.
