Symptom

Miele one wine zone is warm

Diagnostically this is good news. One compressor and one condenser serve the whole cabinet, so a zone that holds correctly proves both — and the problem is downstream, smaller and cheaper.

Four ordinary causes

What this usually turns out to be

Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.

How it shows up

What people describe when they call

  • “The upper zone warm, the lower fine, or the reverse”
  • “A zone that will not come down to its setting”
  • “Both zones drifting together”
A phone face down beside house keys and a folded cloth on a stone worktop, a kitchen out of focus behind

A shortcut

Narrow it down before anybody arrives

A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem before anybody opens anything, which is why it is worth photographing before it clears.

If there is no code at all

The data plate is inside the cabinet, upper left wall or behind the grille. All models

About Miele one wine zone is warm

The fastest diagnosis is the code

Check the cabinet is level and that it has air where it stands. A built-under unit boxed into a run with no ventilation cannot lose its heat, and it is a five-minute check that occasionally answers the whole complaint.

One good zone proves the expensive half

A single compressor and a single condenser serve the whole cabinet. If one zone is holding its temperature correctly, both of those are working, and whatever is wrong is downstream: a thermistor, a zone fan or a damper. That is the cheap end of this appliance and it is worth saying on the phone.

Two things to rule out first

Whether the cabinet is level, and whether it has anywhere to lose its heat. A built-under unit boxed into a closed run cannot, and it will never hold a setting however good its parts are.
