# Miele range & rangetop repair

### One cabinet, two systems

On a Miele range: a cooking surface that may be gas, LP or induction, and an electric oven cavity underneath. They have separate controls, separate conditions and separate parts lists, and the useful sentence when you book is which of the two is unwell.

### What actually goes wrong

- **The oven temperature sensor**, drifting.
- **The element or its relay.**
- **The door latch**, after a self-clean.
- **Ignition and flame sensing** on the gas tops — clicking without lighting and lighting then dropping out are two repairs.
- **The induction generator** on the induction ranges.

### Built into stone

Most of these are slide-ins with a counter tight to either side. Anything behind the appliance means bringing it forward, and that is planned rather than discovered on the day.

What this involves

The two halves diagnosed separately, as the appliance reports them

Gas conversion and regulator setting handled properly

Slide-in appliance drawn out from between stone

Burners, cavity, or both. They fail independently on this make and the parts have nothing in common.

On the gas half, behavior first

Which burners, which settings, whether it clicks, whether it holds. The gas surfaces publish no code at all, so the whole diagnosis is in what the burner does.

On the cavity, measurement

Sensor as a resistance, element under load, latch through a full cycle. Numbers rather than impressions.

Bring it forward carefully

A slide-in between stone counters comes out on protection. Scratched stone is more expensive than most of the parts on this page.

### The oven is out and the burners are fine. One repair or two?

One visit, one appliance, one system. The cavity is electric on all of these ranges, so an oven that will not heat is an element, its sensor or the relay — and none of that touches the burners.

### Can it be converted to propane?

Yes, with the maker's LP kit. The orifices are changed and the regulator set; it is not an adjustment from the front panel and it is not something to improvise. Worth raising if the appliance is moving to a house on a tank.

### What is the difference between this and a rangetop?

A rangetop is the burner deck without the oven under it — cabinetry instead. Same burners, same diagnosis, different access, and it is on this page for that reason.
