Every dryer Miele sells in the United States now is a heat-pump machine, which means the condition on the display is usually about a circuit that has no equivalent in a vented dryer: a compressor, an evaporator and a condensate pump rather than an exhaust duct.

### What it covers

What a published cause names is a circuit rather than a component, which is the single most useful thing to know before anybody orders a part. This one covers:

- Is displayed in many cases because the lint filters or the plinth filter have not been cleaned or have been cleaned insufficiently.

- The right-hand guide pin comes out when the toe-kick filter is removed. The guide pin prevents the access panel from closing without the toe-kick filter.
- To speed up the removal of residue from the surface, run a water jet vertically over the front of the toe-kick filter.
- Squeeze the toe-kick filter very carefully several times as you rinse it.
- To efficiently loosen underlying residue, gently press down on the plinth filter with the back of your hand.
- Continue to carefully squeeze the toe-kick filter until all of the water has been removed.
- To soak up water, place the damp plinth filter between 2 hand towels. On a flat surface, repeatedly press down gently on the toe-kick filter with a flat hand. This will dry the toe-kick filter more quickly.
- The toe-kick filter must not be installed dripping wet.
- Otherwise, this could cause a condition.
- Carefully squeeze the water out of the toe-kick filter.
- If a drying program is interrupted with a message after the clean toe-kick filter has been installed, the toe-kick filter was too wet when it was installed. Carefully squeeze the water out of the toe-kick filter again. Leave the toe-kick filter to air-dry.
- Blockages caused by a damaged or worn toe-kick filter.
- The heat exchanger becomes blocked and damage may occur.
- Install the toe-kick filter back on the handle. Make sure it is the correct way round.
- Risk of injury from sharp cooling fins.
- You could cut yourself.
- Do not touch the cooling fins with your hands.
- Look to see if lint has accumulated on the heat exchanger.
- Damage due to incorrect cleaning of the heat exchanger.
- The tumble dryer will not dry if the cooling fins are damaged or bent.
- Vacuum up any lint and residues.
- This will push in the right-hand guide pin at the same time.
- To catch any particles or lint, pour the contents of the bowl or bucket through a filter (e.g., coffee filter).
- Dispose of the filter with your household waste.
- Too much laundry has been placed in the drum and the tumble dryer is overloaded.
- Take out some of the laundry.
- The ventilation grille under the door is obstructed.
- Ventilation to and from the appliance is insufficient (e.g., because it is installed in a small room). This may have caused the room temperature to rise sharply.
- For condenser dryers, please also note the following:
- When drying, open a door or window to ensure sufficient ventilation.
- The plinth filter is encrusted.
- If too much detergent has been used when washing, white residue may be encrusted on the edges and front of the plinth filter; see Fig. 4.
- Wash the plinth filter on its own in the washing machine without any detergent at a max. temperature of 105°F (40°C) at a spin speed of 600 rpm.
- The plinth filter is deformed or damaged.
- If the plinth filter has not been cleaned properly or is very old, the filter may become deformed or tear; see Fig. 5. The plinth filter no longer sits flush. Lint will get into the heat exchanger without being filtered out.
- Plinth filters are available from the Miele online store.
- There is a technical condition.

### Worth trying yourself, in this order

- Clean the lint filters after every drying program.
- Clean the plinth filter immediately when
- Clean the lint filters as follows:
- Open the door.
- Pull the upper lint filter forward to remove it.
- Remove the lint (see arrows).
- Remove the lint (see arrows) from the surface of all the lint filters and the perforated laundry deflector.
- Turn the yellow knob on the lower lint filter in the direction of the arrow (until you hear it click).
- Use a vacuum cleaner with a long crevice nozzle attached to remove any visible lint from the upper air flow openings.
- Clean all lint filters with water:
- Wipe the smooth plastic surfaces of the lint filters with a damp cloth to clean them.
- Rinse the filter surfaces under warm running water.
- Push the lower lint filter in completely and lock it with the yellow knob.
- Push the upper lint filter in completely.
- Close the door.
- Check and clean the toe-kick filter as follows:
- Press the round, indented area on the heat exchanger access panel to open it.
- Pull the toe-kick filter out by the handle.
- Pull the handle out of the toe-kick filter.
- Clean the toe-kick filter carefully and thoroughly under running water.
- Place the plinth filter so that it lies flat in the bowl or bucket.
- Rinse the entire toe-kick filter thoroughly until all visible residue has been removed.
- Use a damp cloth to remove any lint from the handle.
- Remove any lint you can see.
- Clean using a vacuum cleaner with a dust brush attached. Only pass the vacuum cleaner dust brush over the heat exchanger fins lightly, without applying any pressure.
- Push the toe-kick filter in completely.
- Use a damp all-purpose cloth to remove any lint. Make sure that you do not damage the rubber seal when doing this.
- Close the heat exchanger access panel.
- Start the process again.
- Remove objects that are obstructing the ventilation grille under the door.
- Replace the plinth filter.

Every dryer Miele sells here is a heat-pump machine, and the two things an owner can genuinely fix on one — a full condensate container and a blocked filter — are the two the machine complains about most. Open the door.

Pull the upper lint filter forward to remove it.

Remove the lint (see arrows).

Remove the lint (see arrows) from the surface of all the lint filters and the perforated laundry deflector.

Place the plinth filter so that it lies flat in the bowl or bucket.

Rinse the entire toe-kick filter thoroughly until all visible residue has been removed.

Use a damp cloth to remove any lint from the handle.

Remove any lint you can see.

Clean using a vacuum cleaner with a dust brush attached. Only pass the vacuum cleaner dust brush over the heat exchanger fins lightly, without applying any pressure.

Push the toe-kick filter in completely.

Use a damp all-purpose cloth to remove any lint. Make sure that you do not damage the rubber seal when doing this.

Close the heat exchanger access panel.

Start the process again.

Remove objects that are obstructing the ventilation grille under the door.

Replace the plinth filter.
