# Miele dishwasher error code F11

### What Miele publishes for it

On a Miele dishwasher, the manufacturer publishes this for the non-return valve is incorrectly positioned in the dishwasher. That sentence is Miele’s own, read off its published support page for this condition rather than worked out from the outside. Everything below it — what the condition covers and what is worth doing first — is ours, written from what this equipment does in Miami kitchens.

### What this block of conditions is about

The largest block in this archive, and the one with the most conditions an owner can clear without a visit — the water side of a Miele dishwasher reports itself in detail, and several of these numbers mean a filter, a hose or a tap rather than a part.

### What it covers

What a published cause names is a circuit rather than a component, which is the single most useful thing to know before anybody orders a part. This one covers:

- The non-return valve is incorrectly positioned in the dishwasher.
- Tip the non-return valve inward to release the cover (2).
- Reinstall the non-return valve by placing it down vertically from above.
- The drain pump is blocked. Water is flowing back into the wash cabinet. There is a drain condition.
- Scoop the water out of the wash cabinet using a small container.
- Risk of injury from glass splinters.
- It is especially difficult to see glass splinters in the drain pump.
- Tip the non-return valve inward to release the cover (2).
- Take care when cleaning the drain pump.
- Carefully remove any foreign objects from the drain pump.
- Reinstall the non-return valve by placing it down vertically from above.
- Reinstall the filter combination correctly.
- Additional media

### Worth trying yourself, in this order

- Remove the non-return valve. Proceed as follows:
- Press the catch on the non-return valve inward (1).
- Check the drain pump impeller by manually turning it.
- Make sure that the non-return valve is flush with the edge.
- Ensure that the catch on the cover fully engages.
- Clean the drain pump. Proceed as follows:
- Switch off the dishwasher and unplug the electrical plug.
- Remove the filter combination from the wash cabinet.
- Clean the non-return valve. Proceed as follows:
- Press the catch on the non-return valve inward (1).
- Clean the non-return valve under running water and remove any foreign objects.
- Clean the drain pump. Proceed as follows:
- Press a small sponge through the drain pump impeller.
- Check the drain pump impeller by manually turning it.
- Ensure that the catch on the non-return valve engages completely.
- Make sure that the non-return valve is flush with the edge.
- Ensure that the filter combination lies flat in the base of the wash cabinet.
- Start the wash program again.
- Check whether the water has been pumped away.

### Then what

Start with the water, because on a Miele dishwasher this is where the owner’s half of the diagnosis lives. The tap, the inlet filter, the hose and the drain account for most of the conditions the machine can report, and all four are reachable without tools. South Florida’s water leaves scale in the inlet filter faster than the manual expects, so a filter that was clean a year ago is not clean now.

Miele publishes this one for the dishwashers. The [full Miele archive](https://mielemiami.support/error-codes/) has the other conditions, searchable, and on this make the same number appears on more than one machine roughly a third of the time, so the appliance above is part of the answer. We repair this equipment across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.
